It's moving day and you're feeling the pressure. Not to worry, here are 10 tips to lessen stress.
- Be calm
I know it sounds a lot easier than it is, but you will not make progress if you're losing your cool. There’s always time for a few deep breaths to clear your mind.
- Don't overthink
Basically, as long as you get your belongings safely to the new location, the rest doesn't matter too much.
- Get yourself organized
To make things easier and faster, take this opportunity to get rid of all the stuff you’ve been hanging onto. Old, worn, outdated clothes and shoes can be a bother to drag around from house to house. Give them a second chance at a thrift store, or if they're too far gone, toss them.
- Take your time
Make sure to follow your plan and be careful and thorough.
- Don't rush the process
Many hands make light work. Having plenty of capable and efficient helpers will make the process easy and smooth. Whether they’re friends or hired movers, let everyone know your plan and be sure you’re all on the same page.
- Have a plan
First thing to do in the new house is to mark the rooms with post-its and remember to label the boxes accordingly. Use post -its or masking tape to mark where you would like the furniture to go as well. This will save everyone from having to check with you before putting anything down.
- Have a list if you need to
Write down what goes to the new house, what gets sent to storage, and what needs to be sold.
- Don't forget to eat and stay hydrated
We all look forward to the obligatory pizza and beer after a long day of moving, but that certainly won’t help when you’re working through lunch time. Make a few sandwiches the day before and keep snacks like fruit and chips available for people to grab as they go. Also, be sure there are plenty of water bottles at both houses to keep your helpers from getting dehydrated.
- Take a break when you need it
There’s no harm in taking a few minutes to test out the couch when things are getting too hectic. Work it into your schedule and recharge for a couple minutes.
- Just breathe, you got this is!
It might seem never ending at the time, but it's over before you know it.
